The Department of Economic and Social Sciences is made up of teaching staff and research fellows from the Facoltà di Economia (Sede di Piacenza), with the aim of promoting research activities regarding firms, non-profit enterprises and the context in which they work, integrating different disciplinary points of view. Indeed, a unique feature of DISES is that it includes academic staff from the areas of business, economics, computer science, law, mathematics and statistics, whose research activities, while differing in approach and methodology, all focus on a common subject. This variety is the Department’s strong point and plays a fundamental role in its ability to examine economic and legal questions regarding the nation, the business world and the local economy from an interdisciplinary point of view, and to achieve processes of cross-fertilisation.

The aims of DISES include that of favouring the process of internationalisation of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, by intensifying relations with foreign researchers, carrying out research activities together with prestigious foreign institutions, supporting researchers in securing publication in international journals and disseminating research output through participation at conferences.
