Paolo Carelli "Sport and television series"
With its stories of failures and triumphs, fragility and heroism, sport is a powerful device for the creation of audiovisual narratives. TV series draw on this repertoire with a wide variety of forms, genres, languages and disciplines. The volume explores the articulated panorama – so far little investigated – of fiction series with a sports background, focusing on different markets and geographical-cultural contexts, from the United States to Italy, from South America to Korea. From the fifties to today, sport continues to be a privileged tool for constructing serial imaginaries and addressing complex issues such as social inequalities, racism, gender identities. A prism through which to observe and interpret the production and distribution paths of the television industry and, at the same time, cultural phenomena and social transformations.
