The challenges of streamcasting. TV Yearbook 2025

Massimo Scaglioni: Curator of the volume; author of section 1.1 "The era of streamcasting"

The history of the media has always taught us that different media do not replace each other. Rather, they hybridize with each other, to generate new balances: streamcasting, which gives its name to the new edition of the Yearbook, is the neologism that indicates the current state of hybridization between traditional television broadcasting and online streaming. After Television in the Pandemic (Carocci 2021), Total TV (2022), Resilient Television (2023) and Multipolarity. Television and streaming towards the mature market (2024), the 2025 Yearbook investigates the production, distribution and consumption transformations that have characterised the 2024-25 television season, offering an updated look at the future prospects of the national audiovisual system. The Yearbook is produced by CeRTA (Research Centre on Television and Audiovisuals of Università Cattolica, Milan) in collaboration with Auditel, Adjinn, APA (Association of Audiovisual Producers), Confindustria Radio Televisioni, Comscore, eMedia, Ipsos, Nielsen, Sensemakers, UPA (Associated Advertising Users), and boasts the patronage of the Italian Communications Authority (AGCOM).
