The objective of the Department is to coordinate all teaching activities in mathematics for the three year Undergraduate degree (Laurea Triennale), the Master’s program (Magistrale) and the various PHD programs (Dottorati di Ricerca). The Department promotes and develops scientific research, both methodological and applied, on a broad array of themes with the aim of encouraging a fruitful exchange at the academic and cultural level nationwide and internationally.

The Department of Mathematical Science, Mathematical Finance and Econometrics was established by Dean’s Decree n. 3684 on January 11, 2007; it evolved from the Econometrics and Mathematics Institute for Economic, Financial and Actuarial Applications of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. The Director, up to October 31, 2013, was Professor Mario Faliva.

On April 2019, by Dean's Decree n. 5310, the Departement changed its denomination into Departement of Mathematics for Economic, Financial and Actuarial Sciences.
