Child Neuropsychiatry (MEDS-20/B)
The research activity of the Child Neuropsychiatry group is carried out in various areas that cover many aspects both in the field of Neurology and Psychology and Psychiatrist in pediatric age.
In the neurological field, research focuses mainly on epilepsy, cerebral palsy and the follow-up of newborns with brain lesions and children with neurogenetic syndromes.
In the field of epilepsy , particular attention is paid to Dravet syndrome, epileptic encephalopathies of the early years, and more generally to drug-resistant forms of epilepsy, also through collaboration with the group of pediatric neurosurgeons, in a path that also includes surgical treatment. Particular attention is paid to the field of pediatric-onset neuromuscular diseases, with particular attention to Duchenne muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy for which our center represents a clinical and research reference, especially for the clinical trials available for these pathologies. The institute has dedicated facilities, equipment and staff for clinical trials to maximize commitment in this area.
The scientific activity of developmental psychiatry concerns the study of neurocognitive processes and behavioral aspects of neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, learning disorders, intellectual disabilities and language and communication disorders. He is also involved in studying the etiological factors and functional impairments of the main psychiatric disorders in developmental age, such as anxiety, depression, psychotic onset and eating disorders.
