Aims

  • The Department of Political Sciences promotes and supports scientific research pursued by professors and researchers who are members of different faculties of the University, first of all the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences.
  • The members of the Department work in different scientific areas, such as history, law, political sciences and investigate political phenomena considering their institutional and organizational implications both at national and international level. As the image to identify the Department which scientific areas have an international dimension, it has been chosen a map from 1507, drawn by the German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller (1470 - 1521), it has a great historical importance because it's the first document in where the New Continent discovered by Cristoforo Colombo is called "America". In 2005 this map has been declared "Memory of the World" by UNESCO.

  • The Department encourages researches, conferences and publications, often realized in cooperation with national and international institutions.

History

On 19th December 1983 the Department of Political Sciences of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore was constituted by Rector’s Decree nr. 333 including the members of the former Institute of Political Sciences and of other institutes.
