Abstract: According to climate change scenarios, in the absence of emission reduction interventions, temperature and extreme events will increase with significant risks for health, ecosystems and agriculture also due to the scarcity of water resources.
Considering the health implications is critical to promoting mitigation and adaptation policies that optimize health benefits.
The Cobenefits of Health and Equity project in support of climate change response plans in Italy - COBENEFIT therefore aims to measure the health impact associated with climate change, using different adaptation and mitigation scenarios.
In addition, it aims to accelerate efforts towards the achievement of international targets of sustainable development, mitigation and adaptation to climate change in Italian cities, promoting a "health and equity centered" approach in the planning of policies and interventions at the local level, giving priority to evidence-based measures associated with the greatest direct and indirect benefits in terms of health, capable of reducing social and gender inequalities at the same time. Finally, the project aims to create a collaborative network of health stakeholders and those responsible for environmental protection to provide information and training tools through a dedicated online platform to support policies and actions that recognize the centrality of health in accordance with "The Health Argument for climate action".
