Economic and Social History

YEAR 2021

  • September  7-10, 2021 - Within the framework of the 16th International Congress entitled Eating on the move (nineteenth to twenty-first centuries), Prof. C. Besana, together with Prof. R. d'Errico and Prof. D. Bruni from the University of Roma Tre, presented the paper entitled: "The Food of migrant People on the Move from Italy to the Americas (19th-20th Centuries) and from Africa to Italy across the Mediterranean (21stCentury)". Prof. G. Fumi presented the paper entitled: 'A penny for your meal. The development of coin-operated food selling, with a focus on the Italian case'. Dr. I. Suffia, together with Prof. Valerio Varini from the Bicocca University of Milan, presented the paper "Travelling gastronomy. The Michelin Guides and the selection of taste'. Prof. A. Locatelli and Dr. N. Martinelli presented a paper entitled: 'Eating at the "Hotel Posta": the case of the central Italian Alps during the 19th and 20th Centuries'. Prof C. Besana was also one of the organisers of the symposium.

 

YEAR 2020

  • February 14, 2020 - As part of the Study Day “Benessere e consumo globali - Le imprese "leggere" italiane nel mercato internazionale tra XIX e XX secolo", Prof. C. Besana together with Prof. R. D'Errico presented the report " Produzioni, esportazioni e iniziative imprenditoriali all'estero nel settore delle conserve ittiche nel Novecento italiano" and Prof. A. M. Locatelli together with Dr. I. Suffia presented the report " Il brand dell'acqua San Pellegrino nel mercato internazionale (XX secolo)", Università degli studi di Milano", Building U7 - Room 2104, Milan.

YEAR 2019

  • September 11-14, 2019: As part of the International Study Conference The global city, Bologna. (IX AISU Congress), Dr. N. Martinelli presented the report entitled “Associazioni sindacali ed edilizia popolare: criteri di gestione del piano Ina Casa lungo gli anni Cinquanta
  • September 10-13, 2019: in the context of EURHO-European Rural History Organisation 4th International Conference, Prof. G. Fumi was co-organizer of “Panel 106” Continuous patterns and innovations in animal breeding practices and technologies”. Prof. A. M. Locatelli, on the other hand, participated as organizer. Suffia as Conference Discussant con il paper intitolato “The wine production in the Italian North-Eastern Regions (1954-1984)”, Panel 304 - Social Players and the Diffusion of Agronomic Knowledge and Technical Innovation in the European Countryside (end 18th – early 20th centuries) – Part 1. Prof. A. M. Locatelli also participated in Panel 304.1. Spreading Agronomic Knowledge and Technical Innovation in the Countryside: some case-studies of Institutions in Northern Italy (end half of the 19th century), Paris.
  • August 29-31, 2019: in the context of EBHA 23rd annual congress, Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Business History of Creativity, Prof. A. M: Locatelli and Dr. I. Suffia presented the report entitled “Creativity in food industries: innovation and development in the Italian diary sector in the 20th century”

 

YEAR 2018

  • September 6-8, 2018: during the 22nd Annual Congress della European Business History Association, Prof. C. Besana (with Prof. R. D'Errico) presented the report with the title: "The Sea in a tin can. The production manufacturing methods and companies of the Italian preserved fish canning industry during the twentieth century (1915-2000)", Ancona.
  • September 6-8, 2018: during the 22nd Annual Congress della European Business History Association, Prof. A.M. Locatelli (with Dr. I. Suffia and Dr. M. Romano) presented the report entitled: "The oil and Gas Distribution: ENI and its Naval Fleet (1950s-1960s)", Ancona. 
  • August 1, 2018:  in the context of the XVIII World Economic History Conference, Prof. C. Besana participated in the panel "The Italian Canning Industry in the 19th and 20th Centuries" [with S. Conca Messina and R. D'Errico] with the paper entitled: "The Struggle for Food. From Malthusian Tension to GMO, and Beyond 19th-21th Centuries", Boston.

 

YEAR 2017

  • October 19-21, 2017: Prof. C. Besana participated in the International Conference: "Enrico Mylius (1769-1854) e le relazioni italo-tedesche all'epoca delle rivoluzioni. La Lombardia e le regioni centrosettentrionali dell'Europa nel primo Ottocento", with the report: "Imprenditori tedeschi in Lombardia", Italo-German Centre for European Excellence, Loveno di Menaggio (CO).
  • September 11-14, 2017: Prof. C. Besana and Dr. I Suffia participated at the 3rd European Rural History Organization Conference, Leuven, with the report: ‘From industry to tradition in the dairy sector. The cow dairy in Northern Italy and Switzerland during the 20th century’.
  • September 11-14, 2017: Prof. G. Fumi partecipated at 3rd European Rural History Organization Conference, Leuven, with the report: ‘Milk production and milk markets in Europe before EU's policy, 1900-1965’ (12/9/2017) and with the report: ' The rise and impact of an international network for the dairy sector, 1878-1937' (13/9/2017).
  • September 11-14, 2017: Prof. A.M. Locatelli (with Prof. Paolo Tedeschi) partecipated at 3rd European Rural History Organization Conference, Leuven, with the report: 'The influence of the European institutions and policies on the European dairy sector'.
  • September 11-14, 2017: Prof. A. M. Locatelli and Prof. C. Besana (with Prof. Gabriele Galli) partecipated at 3rd European Rural History Organization Conference, Leuven, with the report: 'The viticulture in the Alps, 18th-20th century: a comparison between two paths'.
  • Juin 1-2, 2017: Prof. C. Besana participated in the 3^ Conférence Internationale d'Histoire et des Cultures de l'Alimentation [[with Conca Messina Silvia and D'Errico Rita], with the paper entitled: The origins of excellence. The debate on the quality of milk and cheese between XIX and XX centuries", Tours, France.
  • Mai 31, 2017: Prof. C. Besana presented, during the Conference "Histoire et adaptation des champignons Penicillium du fromage"  the report on "De l'empirisme à l'application de la science dans la production du Gorgonzola", Université Paris Sud.
  • Mai 24-27, 2017: Dr I. Suffia participated at 3rd International Conference in Economic and Social History. Labour History: production, markets, relations, policies (from the late Middle ages to the early 21st century), Greek Economic History Association, Faculty Of History & Archaeology University Of Ioannina, University of Ioannina, Ioannina, presenting the report: Labour relations vs Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)’.
  • Mai 8-9, 2017:  Prof. A.M. Locatelli participated in the G7 International Forum entitled: Globalization, Inclusion and Sustainability in a Global Century presso La Fondazione Link Campus University, with the Fondazione Economia Tor Vergata, Rome.
  • April 25-26, 2017: Prof. F. Lavista was invited to the workshop Interdisciplinary connections between History and Regional Studies, 1st ReHi-Network workshop organized by the Regional Studies Association at UCL Barlett School of Planning, London.
  • April 4-6, 2017: Prof. A.M. Locatelli participated in: Colloque TERESMA. Produits menacés, produits oubliés, produits disparus. Causes et mécanismes du déclin, XIV-XXI siècles. Université Bordeaux Montaigne.
  • March 30-31, 2017: Prof. A. M. Locatelli presented the report: “The Social plans from ECSC to ESF: a model of capitalism at the beginning of the Cold War". The University of Luxembourg, Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH).
  • March 30-31, 2017: Dr. Spero S.Z. Paravantis presented the report: ‘To Pay or Not to Pay’: A Historical and Legal Overview of the Question of WWII Reparations, and its Impact On European (dis?) Integration.” The University of Luxembourg, Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH).
  • March 9-10, 2017: Prof. F. Lavista was invited speaker (with Giandomenico Piluso) at the Interfirm Credit conference, MinEFi, Paris.
  • March 2-3, 2017: Prof. A. M. Locatelli participated at: La fabrique transnationale de la "science nationale" en Italie (1839-fin des annees 1920), Ecole Francaise de Rome, 2017.
  • February 9, 2017: Dr. I. Suffia presented the speech entitled: ‘La prima rivoluzione industriale’, ‘Come siamo diventati globali. Lezioni di Storia Economica’ at the cycle of meetings curated by F. Amatori, Casa della Cultura, Milano.
  • January 26-27, 2017: Prof. F. Lavista was invited speaker (with Carlo Brambilla) at the workshop Oligopolio, istituzioni e performance delle imprese (Pra 2016), Università degli Studi di Pisa, Pisa.
  • January 13-14, 2017: Prof. A. M. Locatelli and Dr. I. Suffia participated at the  Workshop: Prospettive e ipotesi di ricerca sulla storia dell’industria alimentare italiana, Facoltà di Economia ‘G. Fuà’, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, with the report: ‘Strategie commerciali e industria del formaggio: il brand nel Novecento’.
